Audra McDonald is unrivaled in the breadth and versatility of her talent as an actress and a performer. She was the recipient of a record breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. The actress was also identified in Time magazine among the 100 most influential people, and she was also given with the National Medal of Arts - the highest award given in America for artistic achievement and achievement - by the president Barack Obama. It is the same role she played for her 2017 West End London debut for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award. Along with setting records for the highest number of awards in a competition category for an actor, she became the first actor to be awarded in the four acting categories. Her credits in the theatre includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night was McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is The Making of the Musical Seduction of 1921-and All That Followed. Frankie Johnny on the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was first seen on TV as a drama actor in the Peabody Award winner CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years. She went on to co-star with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the critically acclaimed 1999 television adaptation of Annie and in 2000 she had a recurring role in NBC's smash series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald received the first Emmy for her role in The HBO version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she was back on television but this time on Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., starring Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries on the WB in the early part of 2006 as well as Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar and Grill on HBO in 2016. She also appeared in 2021 when she starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in the film The Bite, a pandemic drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. She first appeared on the show in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised the part (now called Liz Reddick) as a season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. She is currently a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
